THE FOURTEENTH DAY OF SEPTEMBER IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 2008

The Second Sunday in Kingdomtide

9:30 O’clock AM

+ Order of Worship +

September 14, 2008

WELCOME AND WORDS OF COMMUNITY INTEREST

Welcome to The Bath Church on this Sunday in Kingdomtide, the season to hear the stories of Jesus and to affirm our discipleship in God’s Kingdom. We welcome those who are guests with us today. We look forward to giving you a "Welcome Bag" as you leave the sanctuary so that you can become better acquainted with us. Thank you for coming to worship, and we hope that you will join us each Sunday.

PRELUDE: Three New England Hymns Billings

- As the Prelude begins, let us with silence prepare our hearts for worship -

p CALL TO WORSHIP:

Leader: Christ calls all to come and worship, to come and serve this day.

People: Christ calls all, the sure of faith and those who doubt, those singing for joy and those bowed down with sorrow.

Leader: Christ calls all, whatever their worship customs, he calls all of us to be one body in love and witness.

All: Let us worship the Christ who calls!

p HYMN OF PRAISE: O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing No. 96

p COMMUNITY PRAYER:

Good and Patient God, we praise you for your strong and relentless love, and we respond by coming to you in faith. We come needing your forgiveness as we have spoken harshly, judged quickly and acted carelessly to our neighbors and to those we love. Forgive us, Lord, and we then help us to love as you love and to show mercy to those who need our forgiveness. This we pray through Jesus who came to demonstrate your love. Amen.

In silence we bring our personal prayers …

p SILENT PRAYER, PASSING GOD’S PEACE: "May the peace of Christ be with you."

p RESPONSE: Lord, We Lift Your Name on High No.88

Lord, I lift your name on high. Lord. I love to sing your praises.

I’m so glad you’re in my life. I’m so glad you came to save us.

You came from heaven to earth to show the way, from the earth to the cross,

My debt to pay; from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky,

Lord, I lift your name on high.

ANTHEM: This is My World Pepper Choplin

SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 18: 21-35 NT pg. 17

THE CHILDREN’S MOMENT (After which children age six and under may leave for childcare)

ANTHEM: Two Sonatas Reiche

PRAYER CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS

Pastor: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

WEEK OF September28-October 4

GENERAL NEWS…

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE BULLETIN are due on Wednesdays by noon. Send to

TREASURER NOTES: The first Sunday back from our summer schedule resulted in improved giving from the congregation.  We appreciate and need your support during this difficult six month transition to a new fiscal year.  Despite the one week improvement, your Finance Board was forced to cut our giving to Missions by 50% until gifts come closer to meeting our monthly needs.  We regret having to do this, but there has not been sufficient monies left after our fixed operating costs to continue full Missions giving.  If you have any comments or questions you are welcome to contact me. Gerry Flinn - Treasurer

OFFERING ENVELOPES: Those who have requested weekly offering envelopes in the past can pick up envelopes for the next six months on a table in the narthex.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for WONDERFUL WEDNESDAYS: Please contact Connie Claes (666.3520.ext.17) if you would like to help with one of our children’s classes (5:30-6:00pm & 7-8:00pm). We would like to offer more choices of classes but we need you to help lead them. Each class is 4 weeks.

SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER SUNDAY SCHOOL MISSION PROJECT - CLOTHING DRIVE: Please consider donating your child or youth’s gently used clothing, coats, shoes/boots to our clothing drive to benefit Harvest House. Bins are located on each floor for your donations.

PARENTS: The Christian Education Board has provided new Quiet Time Toy Bins for your youngest children’s enjoyment. They are located in the Sanctuary and the Balcony. Please use these to help occupy your baby during our worship service. Just return borrowed items to the marked bins as you leave.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS NEEDED: Please contact Connie Claes (666.3520 ext.17) if you would like to serve as a substitute teacher in our Sunday School program. We need subs for all grade levels.

WORSHIP TEAM MEMBERS NEEDED Are you interested in modern praise and worship music? Do you enjoy singing? Do you play an instrument? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, please contact Adam Marquette. We are putting together a worship team for the 5:30pm Sunday service and would love to have you help out. Hurry up and talk to Adam because rehearsals will be starting soon!

PHONE DIRECTORY: If you have any corrections for the phone directory please let the office know as soon as possible

FALL MISSION APPEAL will help the "Giving Hope" program which supports children from Africa effected by HIV/AIDS and Airfare Assistance Fund which helps local families fly their soldier home before or after deployment. More in depth information about these worthy causes can be found outside the sanctuary and will be sent in a letter.
