WORDS OF WELCOME AND COMMUNITY INTEREST

Welcome to The Bath Church on this first Sunday of the summer schedule! Today we welcome new members and will share a reception with them following worship. Please welcome them! If you are a guest with us today, we look forward to giving you a "Welcome Bag" as you leave the sanctuary so that you can become better acquainted with us. Thank you for coming to worship, and we hope that you will join us each Sunday.

PRELUDE: Prelude on the New Commonwealth R. Vaughan Williams

- As the Prelude begins, let us with silence prepare our hearts for worship -

CALL TO WORSHIP:

Leader: Friends in Christ: we have been told by our Master to love one another, just as God loves us.

People: Christ called us his friends, and commanded us to love each other.

Leader: Jesus also said that to love him is to obey him, and to obey him is to love one another.

People: May our love for God, for Christ, and for one another abide forever, that we may truly be the friends of Christ.

p HYMN OF PRAISE: God of Grace and God of Glory No. 569

p COMMUNITY PRAYER:

Caring God, it shames us to admit how difficult we find it to love in a self-giving, much less a self-sacrificing way. Forgive us, our selfishness. Fill us with your love and impress upon us Christ’s love: that by your grace and his example, we may more truly be worthy disciples and loving friends of the one who died for us. In Christ’s Name we pray. Amen.

In silence we bring our prayers of confession….

p SILENT PRAYER • WORDS OF ASSURANCE • PASSING GOD’S PEACE: "May the peace of Christ be with you."

p RESPONSE: Lord, We Lift Your Name on High No. 88

Lord, I lift your name on high. Lord. I love to sing your praises.

I’m so glad you’re in my life. I’m so glad you came to save us.

You came from heaven to earth to show the way, from the earth to the cross,

My debt to pay; from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky,

Lord, I lift your name on high.

ANTHEM: My Heart Is Steadfast, O God Kevin Thomson

SCRIPTURE READING: John 15:12-17 NT pg. 96

THE CHILDREN’S MOMENT (After which children age six and under leave for childcare)

COMMISSIONING OUR LIBERIA TRIP MISSIONERS

SERMON: "God Wants Us to Know One Another"

THE OFFERING OF OUR TITHES AND GIFTS

THE OFFERTORY MUSIC: Allein Gott in Der Höh’ sei Her Friedrich Zachau

p THE DOXOLOGY No. 382

PRAYER CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS

RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS

Congregational Response: We welcome you with joy as partners in the common life of this church. We promise you our friendship and prayers as we share the hopes and labors of the church of Jesus Christ. May God grant that together we will continue to grow in His knowledge and love and be witnesses of our Risen Savior. Amen.

COMMUNION HYMN: Blest Be the Tie That Binds No. 393

+ THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION +

Invitation • Prayer • Words of Institution • Sharing of Bread and Cup

UNISON PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER:

Eternal God, you have called your people from the east and west and north and south to feast at the table of Jesus Christ. We thank you for Christ’s presence and for the spiritual food of Christ’s body and blood. By the power of your Holy Spirit, keep us faithful to your will. Go with us to the streets, to our homes, and to our places of labor and leisure that whether we are gathered or scattered, we may be the servant church of the servant Christ, who taught us to pray together: "Our Father…."

John Vander Kooi, Janet Schwager, Jon Jones, Margee Frey and Mark Frey are going from Bath Church. They plan to visit a number of schools and have room in their luggage for "light-weight" school supplies: pencils, colored pencils, plastic hand pencil sharpeners, plastic children’s scissors, children’s books, paper clips, calculators, items for teachers, ball caps, T-shirts and more. Write "Liberia" on the bag and bring it to the church. Thanks for your help and prayers.

Please invite a guest and join us. This will be our last meeting before our Summer break. We will resume on Saturday September 6th.

WEEK OF June 8-14

Micah Movie Night: "The Power of Forgiveness" - Sunday, June 8. 6:30 p.m. – Community Room – Free!

The Power of Forgiveness: Over the last 20 years the topic of forgiveness has come into its own as an area of academic study. Researchers are now examining the psychological and physical effects of forgiveness on individuals and within relationships under an amazingly wide variety of conditions, ranging from petty insults to sexual assault.

The POWER of FORGIVENESS explores this important work and translates it into a popular, accessible documentary film for public television. The broadcast is only one part of a national outreach effort that includes a community conversation campaign, this website, a national screening tour and a companion book. The focus is on the emergent understanding of contemporary clinical and academic research that shows forgiveness is validated as having real potential for personal and spiritual transformation. At the same time the film points to the centrality of forgiveness as a virtue in many of the world’s great religions and the struggle that people of all faiths have in honoring it.

WEEK OF June 15-21

OUR OWN GEORGE ROSIN is being recognized for his leadership of the Akron Symphony Orchestra on Monday June 23rd at Hardesty Park in Akron. George will be performing on stage with the Akron Symphony Orchestra at the Picnic Pops concert. The event is free and is open to the public. This is the first time in the history of the Akron Symphony has ever recognized an outgoing President in this way. Please bring the family, your lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy a wonderful evening under the stars with the Akron Symphony Orchestra and our own George Rosin (and his trombone!)
