The Reverend Mark W. Frey,  Senior Pastor  (email: mkfrey@bathucc.org)

Mark is a 1973 graduate of Heidelberg College where he met and married Margee. For the next seven years he worked in Tennessee as a social work coordinator. While there Mark became active in Habitat for Humanity where he was the regional director. During this part of his life he served as lay minister of two churches in Robbins, Tennessee. Mark, Margee and their two children, Matthew and Meredith, moved to Zaire, Africa, when Mark was chosen to head up Habitat's work there. After three and a half years, Mark and his family returned to the States where he attended Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana. While there he pastored a church in Indiana. The Rev. Mark Frey was called to Bath Church in July of 1991 where he is involved in several community activities, including the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, while maintaining his work with our active congregation at Bath Church.

The Rev. James H. Cunningham, Associate Pastor   (email: jcunningham@bathucc.org)

Ordained in the United Church of Christ in 1971, Jim has served as full-time pastor with two congregations, part-time interim pastor with numerous congregations, and health care chaplain for 22 years.  He became our Designated Interim Associate Pastor with a 2 year contract in August of 2001.  A graduate of Heidelberg College (B.A., Psychology, 1968) and Lancaster Theological Seminary (M. Div. 1971), Jim also completed a residency in Clinical Pastoral Education, is a Certified Leader in Stephen Ministry, and a former Board Certified Chaplain.  He has extensive continuing education in spirituality & health, spiritual assessment, stress management, medical ethics, death & dying, grief, mental health, quality management & customer relations.  As a chaplain, Jim has experience in virtually all fields of medicine; he is nationally recognized as an expert in perinatal pastoral care (ministry involving pregnancy, birth, and early infancy).

Jim is married to Charlene Battiato who loves music, cooking, and quilting, plays guitar and piano and sings with Jim on occasion.  Their blended family consists of 5 children:  Teresa, an analyst for a research company based at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio; Mark, a Marine intelligence specialist stationed in Miami; Casey and Wendi both attending Cuyahoga Community College; and Jessica, a sophomore at the University of Dayton majoring in marketing and political science.  Jim and Char live in Copley with their two beloved dogs, Floyd and Daizey.

Jim loves ministry, music, movies, theater, computers, time with his family, the gift of each day, God’s awesome grace, being a cancer survivor and laughing!  “By God’s grace, I have everything I need and more than I deserve,” he proclaims.   Mark Frey speaks of Jim as “a gadget man” having seen his frequent use of his Palm PDA, which includes the entire Bible, knowing how much he loves to use power point projection and seeing his computer design work.

Jim’s primary responsibility will be to provide and coordinate pastoral care ministries.  He will preach at least once a month, participate in a variety of educational ministries, write and manage the weekly email newsletter, be available for baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and assist and support the general ministry of the church as directed by the senior pastor.
