The Reverend Mark W. Frey,

Mark is a 1973
graduate of Heidelberg College where he met and married Margee. For the next seven years he worked in Tennessee as a social work
coordinator. While there Mark became active in Habitat for Humanity where he was the
regional director. During this part of his life he served as lay minister of two churches
in Robbins, Tennessee. Mark, Margee and their two children, Matthew and Meredith,
moved to Zaire, Africa, when Mark was chosen to head up Habitat's work there. After three
and a half years, Mark and his family returned to the States where he attended Christian
Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana. While there he pastored a church in
Indiana. The Rev. Mark Frey was called to Bath Church in July of 1991 where he is involved
in several community activities, including the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, while
maintaining his work with our active congregation at Bath Church.

The
Rev. James H. Cunningham, Associate Pastor (email: jcunningham@bathucc.org)
Ordained
in the United Church of Christ in 1971, Jim has served as full-time pastor
with two congregations, part-time interim pastor with numerous
congregations, and health care chaplain for 22 years. He became our
Designated Interim Associate Pastor with a 2 year contract in August of
2001. A graduate of Heidelberg College (B.A., Psychology, 1968) and
Lancaster Theological Seminary (M. Div. 1971), Jim also completed a
residency in Clinical Pastoral Education, is a Certified Leader in Stephen
Ministry, and a former Board Certified Chaplain. He has extensive
continuing education in spirituality & health, spiritual assessment,
stress management, medical ethics, death & dying, grief, mental health,
quality management & customer relations. As a chaplain, Jim has
experience in virtually all fields of medicine; he is nationally
recognized as an expert in perinatal pastoral care (ministry involving
pregnancy, birth, and early infancy).
Jim is married to Charlene
Battiato who loves music, cooking, and quilting, plays guitar and piano and
sings with Jim on occasion. Their blended family consists of 5 children:
Teresa, an analyst for a research company based at Wright Patterson Air
Force Base, Dayton, Ohio; Mark, a Marine intelligence specialist stationed
in Miami; Casey and Wendi both attending Cuyahoga Community College; and
Jessica, a sophomore at the University of Dayton majoring in marketing and
political science. Jim and Char live in Copley with their two beloved dogs,
Floyd and Daizey.
Jim loves ministry, music,
movies, theater, computers, time with his family, the gift of each day,
God’s awesome grace, being a cancer survivor and laughing! “By God’s grace,
I have everything I need and more than I deserve,” he proclaims. Mark Frey
speaks of Jim as “a gadget man” having seen his frequent use of his Palm
PDA, which includes the entire Bible, knowing how much he loves to use power
point projection and seeing his computer design work.
Jim’s primary
responsibility will be to provide and coordinate pastoral care ministries.
He will preach at least once a month, participate in a variety of
educational ministries, write and manage the weekly email newsletter, be
available for baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and assist and support the
general ministry of the church as directed by the senior pastor.
