HLSL:
Mental Health Month was created more than 50 years ago to raise
awareness about mental health conditions and the importance of
mental wellness for all. This year’s theme is focused on an
essential component of maintaining and protecting mental health and
wellness: social connectedness. The tagline for this year’s
observance is “Get Connected.” There are many ways of creating
connections that support mental health:
·
Get connected to family and friends
to feel close and supported.
·
Get connected to your community
to feel a sense of belonging and purpose
·
Get connected to professional help
to feel better when you’re stressed and having trouble coping.
Another way to get connected: Attend the HLSL/How
to Lessen the Stress Load on Tuesday - May 27,
2008 at 7pm -9pm in Fellowship Hall. This is a free presentation
followed by open forum for questions related to stress as it affects
your body and life in our continuing journey toward health and
wellness.
REVERE BACCALAUREATE:

LIBERIA TRIP LEAVES JUNE 5:
14
members from Bath Church & Mt. Zion Baptist will leave on an 11 day
trip to West Africa on a Friendship Trip. John Vander Kooi, Janet
Schwager, Jon Jones, Margee Frey and Mark Frey are going from Bath
Church. They plan to visit a number of schools and have room in
their luggage for “light-weight” school supplies: pencils, colored
pencils, plastic hand pencil sharpeners, plastic children’s
scissors, children’s books, paper clips, calculators, items for
teachers, ball caps, T-shirts and more. Write “Liberia” on the bag
and bring it to the church. Thanks for your help and prayers.
MEN’S BREAKFAST
on Saturday June 7th. Our own Raleigh Drennon will be our guest
speaker on Saturday June 7th. Raleigh has put together a very easy
to understand and interesting explanation of some of the current
trends in our economy and income tax structure. Come and enjoy
Raleigh's discussion as he sheds some light on a complex subject.
The coffee is ready at 8 AM. Breakfast is served at 8:30 and we try
to adjourn by 9:30 AM. Please invite a guest and join us. This will
be our last meeting before our Summer break. We will resume on
Saturday September 6th. |

WEEK OF June 8-14 |

Micah Movie Night: “The Power of Forgiveness” - Sunday, June 8.
6:30 p.m. – Community Room – Free!
The Power of Forgiveness:
Over
the last 20 years the topic of forgiveness has come into its own as
an area of academic study. Researchers are now examining the
psychological and physical effects of forgiveness on individuals and
within relationships under an amazingly wide variety of conditions,
ranging from petty insults to sexual assault.
The POWER of FORGIVENESS
explores this important work and translates it into a popular,
accessible documentary film for public television. The broadcast is
only one part of a national outreach effort that includes a
community conversation campaign, this website, a national screening
tour and a companion book. The focus is on the emergent
understanding of contemporary clinical and academic research that
shows forgiveness is validated as having real potential for personal
and spiritual transformation. At the same time the film points to
the centrality of forgiveness as a virtue in many of the world’s
great religions and the struggle that people of all faiths have in
honoring it. |
