WORDS OF WELCOME

Welcome members and guests to this Confirmation Sunday at The Bath Church. May we all find this service to be a time to confirm our faith in the God of grace, love and life. Please join us each Sunday.

PRELUDE: Voluntary V John Stanley

- As the Prelude begins, let us with silence prepare our hearts for worship -

p CALL TO WORSHIP: (from Psalm 118)

Leader: This is the day which the Lord has made;

People: let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Leader: Open to us the gates of righteousness,

People: that we may enter through them and give thanks to you, O Lord.

Leader: Hear our words of praise and thanks;

People: O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

p HYMN OF PRAISE: Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart No. 113

p AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: The Apostle’s Creed (updated)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the one holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

In silence we bring our prayers of confession….

p SILENT PRAYER • WORDS OF ASSURANCE • PASSING GOD’S PEACE: "May the peace of Christ be with you."

p RESPONSE: Lord, We Lift Your Name on High No. 88

Lord, I lift your name on high. Lord. I love to sing your praises.

I’m so glad you’re in my life. I so glad you came to save us.

You came from heaven to earth to show the way, from the earth to the cross,

My debt to pay; from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky,

Lord, I lift your name on high.

SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 4:18-25 NT pg. 3

May God grant that we nurture you in life’s journey as we grow together in God’s knowledge and love. This we pray in the name of Jesus, the Risen Christ. Amen.

PRAYER CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS

+ THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION +

Communion Hymn: Seek Ye First No. 349

Invitation • Prayer • Words of Institution • Sharing of Bread and Cup

UNISON PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER:

Eternal God, you have called your people from the east and west and north and south to feast at the table of Jesus Christ. We thank you for Christ’s presence and for the spiritual food of Christ’s body and blood. By the power of your Holy Spirit, keep us faithful to your will. Go with us to the streets, to our homes, and to our places of labor and leisure that whether we are gathered or scattered, we may be the servant church of the servant Christ, who taught us to pray together:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

p HYMN OF COMMITMENT: I Have Decided to Follow Jesus (vs. 1, 2 & 4) No. 344

p THE BENEDICTION AND BLESSING

Our tradition is to hold hands during the singing of the Benediction.

Go now in peace, never be afraid.

God will go with you each hour of every day.

Go now in peace, in faith, and in love.
