WELCOME

Welcome to The Bath Church on this Second Sunday of Easter as we continue to celebrate and reflect on the meaning of the resurrection. We especially welcome those who are guests with us today. We look forward to giving you a "Welcome Bag" as you leave the sanctuary so that you can become better acquainted with us. Thank you for coming to worship, and we hope that you will join us each Sunday.

p CALL TO WORSHIP:

Leader: Christ is Risen

People: He is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!

Leader: The Risen Christ enters our locked rooms

People: And offers us a word of peace.

Leader: Let us rejoice and offer Christ our praise.

ALL: Amen!

PRELUDE: Celebration Fred Gramann

MUSIC TO PREPARE OURSELVES FOR WORSHIP: Please sign the friendship journals in each pew and pass it to others in your pew to sign and then pass it back so you can greet each other by name. Music is also time for personal prayer and preparation for worship.

p HYMN OF PRAISE: That Easter Day with Joy was Bright No. 299

p OPENING PRAYER:

Having risen from the dead, Jesus, you appeared to the disciples, greeted them with "Peace," gave them a mission and the gift of the Holy Spirit, and resurrected them from their living entombment. Now grant us the same blessing. Breathe on us the Holy Spirit. Free us from our self-entombments. State clearly our mission. Grant us peace. Reflecting all that you lived and taught, help us to be energized, bold, courageous, compassionate, and generous, with everyone we encounter. Amen.

p PASSING GOD’S PEACE

Leader: The Peace of Christ be with you!

People: And, also with you!

Leader: Please share the Peace of Christ with those around you.

p RESPONSE: Lord I Lift Your Name on High No. 88

Lord, I lift your name on high. Lord. I love to sing your praises.

I’m so glad you’re in my life. I so glad you came to save us.

You came from heaven to earth to show the way, from the earth to the cross,

My debt to pay; from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky,

Lord, I lift your name on high.

PASTORAL PRAYER AND LORD’S PRAYER ("sins")

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

p HYMN OF COMMITMENT: "Every Morning Is Easter Morning From Now On"

Ev'ry morning is Easter morning from now on!
Ev'ry day's resurrection day, the past is over and gone!

  1. Good-bye guilt, good-bye fear, good riddance! Hello, Lord, Hello, sun!
I am one of the Easter People! My new life has begun!

Ev'ry morning is Easter morning from now on!
Ev'ry day's resurrection day, the past is over and gone!

  2. Daily news is so bad it seems the Good News seldom gets heard.
Get it straight from the Easter People! God's in charge spread the word!

Ev'ry morning is Easter morning from now on!
Ev'ry day's resurrection day, the past is over and gone!

  3. Yesterday I was bored and lonely; But today look and see!
I belong to the Easter People! Life's exciting to me!

Ev'ry morning is Easter morning from now on!
Ev'ry day's resurrection day, the past is over and gone!
Ev'ry morning is Easter morning,
Ev'ry morning is Easter morning,
Ev'ry morning is Easter morning,
From now on!

Sermon Thoughts and Questions: John 20:19-29 Pastor Jim Cunningham

  1. Is your life lived behind "locked doors?" Are their some portions of your life hidden behind "locked doors?"

  2. What do you fear? How does it feel behind the "locked doors?"

  3. If Jesus would appear through these "locked doors," what would he say to you?

  4. Can you, will you, let the Risen Jesus, free you from your "entombments?"

  5. What would you gain by such freedom?

  6. If you want to talk about being freed from your entombments, please contact me.
