WELCOME AND WORDS OF COMMUNITY INTEREST

Welcome to The Bath Church on this Palm Sunday as we begin the journey of Holy Week, the most sacred time for Christians. Please review the list of Holy Week services and events, and come to prepare yourself for the Easter celebration. We welcome those who are guests with us today. We look forward to giving you a "Welcome Bag" as you leave the sanctuary so that you can become better acquainted with us. Thank you for coming to worship, and we hope that you will join us next Sunday for Easter!

PALM SUNDAY SCRIPTURE: Psalm 118: 24-29 OT pg.529

PRELUDE: Hosanna Processional Mark Keller

- As the Prelude begins, may our spirits in silence share the joy of this day -

p CALL TO WORSHIP:

Leader: Let us lift our hearts and raise our voices before him who comes in God’s name!

People: Let us shout praises to the one exalted above all names!

Leader: Wave the palms! Cry "Hosanna!" For our salvation approaches.

People: Hosanna! Hosanna to the One who comes in the Name of the Lord!

p HYMN OF PRAISE: All Glory, Laud and Honor No. 265

The children may join the pastors in the back for the Palm Processional

p COMMUNITY PRAYER:

We come together to remember the drama of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. We can get caught up in the excitement of a parade, especially in an important place and honoring someone we know. We like celebrations! But part of us holds back. We know the rest of the story. It involves denial and betrayal, spitting and shame, a crown of thorns, and a cruel cross. O God, it’s hard to make sense out of life when goodness is crucified and evil seems to triumph. Free us from our fear and give us assurance so that we, too, can wave branches and sing praises to Jesus. Amen.

In silence we bring our prayers of confession….

p SILENT PRAYER • WORDS OF ASSURANCE • PASSING GOD’S PEACE: "May the peace of Christ be with you."

p RESPONSE: Hosanna, Loud Hosanna (vs 3) No. 267

"Hosanna in the highest!" That ancient song we sing,

for Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heaven our King.

O may we ever praise him with heart and life and voice,

and in his blissful presence eternally rejoice!

SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 21:1-11 NT pg. 19

ANTHEM: Rejoice & Sing "Hosanna to the King" Lloyd Larson

THE CHILDREN’S MOMENT (After which children age six and under may leave for childcare)

p HYMN OF PREPARATION: Comfort, Comfort Now My People No. 155

SERMON: Getting It All Together! The Rev. Mark Frey

THE OFFERING OF OUR TITHES AND GIFTS

THE OFFERTORY MUSIC: O Sacred Head Surrounded Paul Tate

ANOINTING FOR HEALING: Come forward for yourself or a loved one.

p THE DOXOLOGY No. 34

MICAH MOVIE: Sunday, March 16 (Palm Sunday!) at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room

"The Narrow Path………….." Following in the footsteps of the great apostles of nonviolence – Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton and Oscar Romero – John Dear, SJ presents in The Narrow Path the challenging message of Jesus in a fresh way, speaking with new force and vision of God’s plea for peace. The Narrow Path is a bold and challenging film, a prophetic call to embody the nonviolence of Jesus and become instruments of peace. Not only does this film address the biblical teachings in the Sermon on the Mount, but John Dear spends a good deal of time focusing on the lifestyle of nonviolence (internal and external) as a priority before God and the example of his son, Jesus.
