WORDS OF WELCOME AND COMMUNITY
INTEREST
We welcome our visitors
today. May all of you feel the warmth and joy of God’s spirit here at The
Bath Church. We thank you for coming to worship, and hope you will join us
each Sunday.
PRELUDE: Saturday: Jesus
Loves Me
Sunday: Grand Old Flag
- As the Prelude
begins, let us with silence prepare our hearts for worship -
MOMENTS OF SILENT PRAYER AND
PREPARATION
p
CALL TO WORSHIP:
Leader: Friends, we gather in
the Name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
People: We gather in freedom
to worship the God who made us.
Leader: We assemble to
celebrate another year of freedom in this great nation.
People: In this nation we
mark the gift of freedom given by God.
Leader: In this time of
worship, let us humbly give thanks for this gift of freedom.
People: For freedom Christ
has set us free, and we praise God for this blessing!
p
HYMN OF PRAISE: My Country, ‘Tis of Thee
My country, ‘tis of thee,
sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing:
Land where my fathers died,
land of the pilgrims’ pride,
From every mountainside let
freedom ring!
My native country, thee, land
of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture thrills
like that above.
Let music swell the breeze,
and ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom’s song:
Let mortal tongues awake, let
all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence
break, the sound prolong.
Our fathers’ God, to thee,
Author of liberty,
To thee we sing:
Long may our land be bright
with freedom’s holy light;
Protect us by thy might,
great God, our King!
p
COMMUNITY PRAYER:
Creator God, as we are
surrounded by the magnificent beauty of your earth, we marvel at the
blessings of our nation which we celebrate this week. We believe that it
is by your guiding hand that this nation continues to be a place of
liberty, freedom, and opportunity. May you continue to guide us as we seek
to be your people gathered around common ideals and goals. We pray for the
leaders of our nation, of our state, and in our community, that they may
be guided by your spirit of truth and justice for all. And may we unite
our hearts and minds in one purpose to make our nation a beacon of liberty
and of hope to a world in strife. This we ask in the Name of our Lord,
Jesus Christ. Amen.
In silence we bring our prayers
of confession….
p
SILENT PRAYER • WORDS OF ASSURANCE • PASSING GOD’S PEACE: "May the peace
of Christ be with you."
THE CHILDREN’S MOMENT
(5:30pm: after which children age six and under leave for childcare)
ANTHEM: Saturday: Spirit
of Greatness
Sunday: The Liberty Bell March Sousa
SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 122
OT pg. 534
p
HYMN OF PREPARATION: America, the Beautiful
"O beautiful for spacious
skies, for amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed
His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with
brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.
O, beautiful for pilgrim
feet, whose stern, impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom
beat across the wilderness!
America! America! God mend
thin every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self
control, Thy liberty in law.
O, beautiful for patriot
dream that sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam,
undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God shed
His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with
brotherhood, from sea to shining sea.
SERMON: "What Do You Like
About America?" Rev. Mark Frey

THE DOXOLOGY
PRAYER CONCERNS AND
CELEBRATIONS
+ THE SACRAMENT
OF HOLY COMMUNION +
Communion Hymn :
Break Thou the Bread of Life
Break now the bread of life,
dear Lord, to me,
As once you broke the loaves
beside the sea.
Beyond the sacred page I seek
you, Lord;
My spirit longs for you, O
living Word.
Bless your own Word of truth,
dear Lord, to me,
As when you blessed the bread
by Galilee.
Then shall all bondage cease,
with you above;
Teach me to love your truth,
for you are love.
Invitation
Prayer • Words of Institution • Sharing of Bread and Cup
UNISON PRAYER
OF THANKSGIVING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER:
Bountiful
God, we give thanks that you have refreshed us (on this grassy hillside)
by granting us the presence of Christ in these gifts of bread and the cup.
As we leave this place, send your Holy Spirit upon us to strengthen our
faith, to increase our love for one another and to encourage our witness
to proclaim the freedom that Christ has for all people. Now hear us as we
pray the prayer that binds us together as one in you Spirit: "Our
Father…." ("sins/sin").
p
HYMN OF COMMITMENT: Battle Hymn of the Republic
Mine eyes have seen the glory
of the coming of the Lord,
He is trampling out the
vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful
lightning of His terrible swift sword,
His truth is marching on.
REFRAIN:
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His
truth is marching on!
I have seen Him in the
watchfires of a hundred circling camps,
They have builded Him an
altar in the evening dews and damps,
I can read His righteous
sentence by the dim and flaring lamps,
His day is marching on.
REFRAIN…
He has sounded forth the
trumpet that shall never call retreat,
He is sifting out the hearts
of men before His judgment seat;
O be swift, my soul, to
answer Him, be jubilant my feet!
Our God is marching on.
REFRAIN …
In the beauty of the lilies
Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His being
that transfigures you and me;
As He died to make men holy
let us live to make men free!
While God is marching on.
REFRAIN …

OFFICE HOURS:
MONDAY – FRIDAY: 9:00 AM TO 3:00 PM |
|
CHURCH OFFICE HOURS:
The church office hours for the summer will be Monday through Friday,
9:00am to 3:00pm.
CHAPMAN VISITATION:
Anyone wishing to visit Jim and Carolyn Chapman, or to take a meal, may
call Carolyn at 666-4465 to set up a convenient time.
YOUTH WORK TRIP to TIFFIN:
We’re going to Tiffin, Ohio again to work with Habitat for Humanity!
The group leaves Sunday, July 15 and returns Wednesday evening, July 18.
Graduated 8th graders on up are invited to go and to bring a
friend! For details, contact Adam Marquette or Dana Mileti.
ROYAL FAMILY KIDS’ CAMP—It’s
getting closer! After almost a year of planning, it’s hard to believe
we’re little more than a month away. How exciting (and just a little
nerve-wracking)! Letters will be going out next week to staff, giving
you the latest updates, along with a list of all staff.
We still have a couple of
more needs:
1) We need people
willing to load up all our supplies Saturday, July 28. To make this
easier, we’re renting a small moving truck so we aren’t making endless
trips. If you could be part of this team, please let Karen Brandt know.
Also, we also need a small group of people willing to come to camp on
Friday, August 3, and load us back up to come home. We don’t need a
large group, but we really do need a moving and packing team. Thank you
in advance!
2) We need people
willing to pray for us the week of camp (if you’re already praying,
that’s even better!). We would ask for you to pray specifically for a
given counselor and his/her two campers, as well as for other staff
people. Jerry McFadden is heading this up, so if you’re willing, please
contact either Jerry or Karen Brandt. This is a vital need to our camp’s
effectiveness, so if you want to be involved but can’t come during the
week, this is the perfect spot for you. Again, thank you in advance. |
RFKC REMINDER—Those of
you who have volunteered to go fishing with us, we will need you to meet
us at Charles Mill Lake at 10:15 on Tuesday, July 31. In early July I’ll
be sending you a letter with directions. I’m hoping one of you might
volunteer to take the fishing-poles that the scouts are letting us
borrow. I will also send a letter to you picnic people who are doing the
picnic for us that day. You are all wonderful!
VBS: July 16-20;

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE A
LIGHTHOUSE HELPER? We have an opening for a Preppie on either the
2nd Thursday or the 4th Thursday team. There are three Preppies to a
team who prepare a salad, an entree or dessert (on a rotating basis) one
Thursday a month for the children of the Lighthouse of Hope mission. We
begin in September and end in May. Our 2-Huggers pick up the food at the
church and go to Lighthouse on Thursdays from 5:00 until about 8:00
o'clock, They serve the meal, play with, read to, craft with and give
attention and affection to the children - most of whom are 4 to 11 years
old. They would welcome another Hugger - perhaps to fill in when one of
them is out of town. If you are interested in learning more about
Lighthouse, please call me, Helen Fifer, at 836-1696 or e-mail me at
jlfifer@earthlink.net. |
