WELCOME AND WORDS OF COMMUNITY INTEREST

Welcome to The Bath Church on this Sunday in Lent. We especially welcome those who are guests with us today. We look forward to giving you a "Welcome Bag" as you leave the sanctuary so that you can become better acquainted with us. Thank you for coming to worship, and we hope that you will join us each Sunday.

PRELUDE: Largo Mark Thewes

- As the Prelude begins, let us with silence prepare our hearts for worship -

p CALL TO WORSHIP:

Leader:  Come, worship God, follow Jesus, and experience the Holy Spirit.

People:  We come to sing songs of faith, to hear the Word, to offer our praise and prayers.

Leader:  Come nurture your faith.

People:  Yes, we seek to grow in knowledge and our understanding faith and tradition.

Leader:  Come to be loved and to love.

People:  Show us the right path.

Leader:  Come to be loved and to love!

p HYMN OF PRAISE: Jesus, Come. For We Invite You  No. 669

p COMMUNITY PRAYER:

O God, mystery beyond our knowing, save us from ourselves.  We find it easy to discuss ideas and argue points of view.  It is much harder to talk about our relationship with you and our relationships with others.  We prefer to criticize; blame, judge, and condemn more than we prefer to be understanding, supportive, be accepting of people different from us, and to take responsibility for ourselves.   We prefer to be right than to be loving. No wonder there is no peace!   Grant us eyes to see the real Jesus and not just the Jesus that fits our needs and prejudices.  God have mercy upon us, sinners that we are.  Help us to be faithful as Jesus was faithful.

In silence we bring our prayers of confession….

p SILENT PRAYER • WORDS OF ASSURANCE • PASSING GOD’S PEACE: "May the peace of Christ be with you."

p RESPONSE: Ubi Caritas et Amor No. 399

Ubi caritas et amor, ubi caritas Deus ibi est.

Where true charity and love abide, God is dwelling there; God is dwelling there.

SCRIPTURE READING: John 21:15-17, 19b

ANTHEM: Lord I Stretch My Hands to You Jay Althouse

THE CHILDREN’S MOMENT (After which children age six and under may leave for childcare)

p HYMN OF PREPARATION: Thy Word  No. 664

SERMON: "Signs of Vitality:  Nurturing Faith"

THE OFFERING OF OUR TITHES AND GIFTS

THE OFFERTORY MUSIC: Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross Mark Hayes

ANOINTING FOR HEALING: Come forward for yourself or a loved one.

p THE DOXOLOGY No. 34

PRAYER CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS

Pastor: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

PASTORAL PRAYER AND LORD’S PRAYER ("sins/sin")

p HYMN OF COMMITMENT: When Our Confidence is Shaken  No. 413

p THE BENEDICTION AND BLESSING

Our tradition is to hold hands during the singing of the Benediction.

Go now in peace, never be afraid.

God will go with you each hour of every day.

Go now in peace, in faith, and in love.
